Considered to be the "brains" of the system, the Supervisory Controller provides timing, control commands, and overall system coordination. It is a 9.216-MHz single-board computer and is at the core of any HCS-II setup. The Supervisory Controller is the gateway where all direct I/O, network I/O, and control decisions come together. Once programmed by a PC, the PC is removed and the SC takes over, watching over your house 24 hours a day.
Because it is a dedicated controller with no unnecessary hardware, its power usage remains low, adding to the system’s energy efficiency. It also runs a very stable real-time operating system allowing it to respond to events immediately. The HCS-II SC is an extremely stable system for home control. The HCS-II SC is based on an industrial control controller board used in hundreds of commercial applications. Put that industrial power to work for your home. Do you really want to have your Home Automation System rely on Windows?
A unique feature of the HCS-II is the data logging feature. This feature allows you to store events in memory for later download to the PC. Simply add event commands in your program to store a specific event code and the time/date when specific conditions are met. Great for monitoring HVAC systems, door openings, alarm arm/disarm, etc.
Start your system with a Supervisory Controller and build it up from there to custom fit your requirements. You simply add modules with specific functions as you need them. The Supervisory controller ships with the latest SC firmware, XPRESS compiler, and HOST access program for viewing real-time system information and providing direct HCS-II manipulation.
We recommend that most people start with 3 basic modules: An HCS-II Supervisory Controller, An RBUF-Term I/O board with 16 ±30V inputs and 8 3A relay outputs, and an HCS-PLIX 2-Way X10 Interface Board with TW-523 X10 Interface. This combination will give you a very powerful system for controlling your home including X10 control, digital and analog I/O, and central computer control.
